- Which is your favorite MechAssault title and why?
"From a pick-up-and-play point of view I'm going to have to say MechAssault® hands down. I was three months late to the launch of the game on xbox live, but I still remember logging on and seeing 50 or more different rooms going at all hours of the night. Because I was new, I tended to hang around Destruction and Last Man Standing rooms so I wouldn't be a burden to any teams and drag them down. I can fondly remember just kicking back and playing game after game night after night and never growing tired of it.
Then MechAssault 2 comes along. I do the most natural thing when I get MA2 on the first night. I put in the disc and hopped online into the first Destruction room I find. Nothing prepared me for the experience. To sum it up, It reminded me of spending a day at a kindergarten and having 11 kids hopping around you all hyped on sugar and mountain dew and jumping on your back. Sure it’s cute for the first 5 minutes, but after that it's annoying. I mean I spend most of my spare time taking care of my kids, and when they go to sleep, I'm typically looking for an entertaining escape. Not reliving my daily routine.
In order to maintain what little grip of sanity I had left I started playing mainly Team Destruction in MA2. And for that I have much admiration for the game. The various role types and game play innovations created a unique gaming experience. I loved talking strategy and coming up with new plays. In fact, I came up with some good ones that I'm still ticked off to this day that SuicideDrive never tried a few of them in a clan match."
- What is the first Mech you ever piloted?
"I know I loose a lot of street cred around these parts when I say I was mainly a Last Man Standing and Destruction player. But the truth is the Last Man Standing game type taught me how to stalk my prey with a Loki. Looking back on it, I guess it was a huge source for the "fun" aspect to the game. Standing close by, invisible, waiting for the right moment to pounce and just let everything fly. Then running through explosion after explosion snagging the powerups before anyone else does. Good times!"
- Were you a part of any team in MechAssault®? If so, which team? Would you care to share some of your team's history?
"Like I said, I didn't play much Team Destruction on MechAssault® 1, but on MA2 I finally met up with Deeblaze who was a good VTOL pilot. (I always thought of good VTOL pilots like good waiter’s at a fine restaurant, they always were there before you needed them with what you wanted, and they were smart enough to give the great service to those tables that would give them the bigger tip). Soon after I joined up with Deeblaze and the boys from TerraSquad we merged with Tapper’s team into SuicideDrive. That’s when I finally learned about the online community that existed for this game. I was a voyeur at first reading what a lot of people had to say on the MA2 boards and the greens. But then I got to posting a lot of my own musings on theDrive’s website. I guess I didn’t want to see that go away."
- Did you or your team have a rivalry in either MechAssault titles? What made this team your ultimate rival? Did they see you or your team as their rival?
"LOL, I don’t think we’ve ever had any rivals. We wanted to beat everyone equally as much. Sometimes it wouldn’t happen and sometimes it would."
- Name some of the Mech Pilots you played with most in either MechAssault® title.
"This is tough because I know I’m forgetting so many, but here are few of the characters that I had a lot of fun playing with:- Deeblaze
- DragonCapone
- Tapper
- Papacy
- If you could create MechAssault 3, what feature would you take from each game? What new features would you add?
"Well, with the recent announcement of MechWarrior development in its preliminary stages, I think I would like to focus on that rather than MechAssault 3. The truth is we all need to be ready for a very different game. I’m receptive to trying something new, but the truth of the matter is I’m more looking forward to having a game that will bring back all the familiar names. The problem is in today’s day-and-age of xbox live gaming, there are so many people online that you wouldn’t know if any of those familiar names are out there. That’s why websites like these are crucial. I envision this website being a central reunion space of sorts to reform teams and to make new ones to play competitively and leisurely when MW comes out."
